This page is designed to provide information necessary for foreign visitors to Japan in the event of a disaster, sudden illness, or other happenings. This page is available in multiple languages, as a measure to decrease stress so that foreign visitors to Japan can travel with peace of mind. This website aims to provide necessary and correct information for foreign travelers who do not speak Japanese including “disaster information”, “evacuation shelter information”, “medical institution locations”, “emergency contact information”, and other useful resources important in times of emergency.

Japan Visitor Hotline

Japan Visitor Hotline is a multilingual call center operated by Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO). The Japan Visitor Hotline provides necessary weather and transportation information for foreign visitors in the event of a natural disaster. The call center aims to provide peace of mind while traveling around Japan to all foreign visitors, even in non-disaster situations.

119 is an emergency number to be dialed when a fire is detected, a person is suddenly ill, or injured, or help is needed in the event of an accident or disaster.

Multilingual support is being implemented through the introduction of a simultaneous three-way interpretation service via the Telephone Interpretation Center.
(As of June 2021, 647 emergency call centers have introduced this service (out of 724 centers), approximately 89%).

Police Department

110 is an emergency call number for reporting incidents, accidents, and other emergencies to the police. The police has multilingual officers in the Communication Control Room and uses a three-way call system, including police staff at the Interpretation Center, to respond to calls from foreigners who do not understand Japanese.
